The evolution of illustrated manuscripts and their contribution to current book design

Abstract

The present work aims to be a brief sketch of the evolution process that the medieval manuscript underwent and its legacy to the concept of the current book. Since the fall of the Western Roman Empire, through Ireland, the Carolingian Empire, the Arab occupation in the Iberian Peninsula, its development in Byzancium, to a rich fusion of styles. It also approaches the process that been required for its production and some of the most important materials until the arrival of paper.
